New Zombie Novel
Courtesy of Bzzagent.com, (of I which I am a member) read the first 50 pages of Joan Frances Turner's new book, Dust. http://www.bzzagent.com/img/campaigns/5061918741/Dust_sample_BzzAgent.pdf
The book follows Jessica and the rest of her gang of zombies as they just try to make their way through their daily "lives." Dust is told from the point of view of Jessica and is unique because the zombies in the story are not just mindless flesh eating creatures, they also live and work together and ponder the ways of their new existance. Yet it still has all the gory and spooky moments of traditional zombie stories.

Giant Jumanji Jungle sized mosquitos
I've had a fear of mosquitoes since I was about nine and was told that they gave people a disease called malaria, then people would die because of the malaria. But there hadn't been any mosquitoes around where I lived when I was younger. At least, I never saw any. In the past few years however, I started to see them often but they were mostly tiny. Then, this month I woke up to two of these huge mosquitoes on my screen door. I found three of the of them flying around my room within in two days. I have not run around and screamed so much in quite a while.

TV rots my brain and I love every minute of it
My cable got cut off because I forgot to pay the bill. I swear it hasn't been a full thirty days since the last time I paid the bill... At least I don't think so. Anyway, payday is still another seven days away. I've decided to try to read more in the mean time. I have a book that I've been halfway through for about a month, just sitting there waiting for me to pick it up again. I've planned to start reading it again but there is always something to watch on TV or at least a lot of channels to mindlessly flip through.
I figured without the distraction of my favorite shows I'd be just about done with the book by now. However, the internet is still working so.
It's a good book and do want to know what happens next but I really have to be in the mood to sit down and read. I haven't been lately. A few times I wished I had someone that would read the book to me. Which got me thinking about audiobooks. But I think audiobooks = lazy. I'm already very lazy and if I didn't even have to read for myself anymore... well, that would be stepping over a line that I don't think there is any coming back from.
Next thing you know, I'll have to higher a helper monkey to change the televsion channels with the remote control. That is, when I get the cable turned back on. Man, I miss my cable.

Slightly notable/favorite things of the week
TV Show: The Inbetweeners (bbc america), So funny. Unfortunately, this week was the season finale. I'm hoping for a new season but I can't find any information.
Movie I saw (on cable): The Lucky Ones. Rachel McAdams is really good in everything she does. Tim Robbins; I've had a crush on him since The Shawshank Redemption. Michael Pena; between his performance in this movie and being the only funny thing about Observe and Report, he's becoming a new favorite of mine.
Person: Rachel McAdams she's a brillant actress. I've liked her in every movie I've seen her in. She can now officially take the spot of my favorite actress.
Scariest thing I discovered: Pinch Collars; My sister got a pit bull puppy. I was researching some instructions on how to raise the dog so it doesn't try to eat my face some day. I learned, "Choke chains do little to control an American pit bull terrier due to its high pain tolerance. A pinch collar works better."
I've never even heard of a pinch collar and when I looked up the picture, I thought it had to be a joke but it is real and pretty freaky looking.

Lately there have been a lot more stray dogs and cats running around my neighborhood. I was getting a little nervous that we might eventually get caught in the middle of a turf war between the dogs and cats. But today when I was taking my morning walk I saw three animal control trucks and one animal control van driving around. My first thought was, "finally." But a few moments after that, two trucks began to chase a couple of dogs that had just rounded the corner, and I instantly felt really bad for the dogs and then the realization hit me that these dogs' days were now probably numbered. Next, thing I know I'm watching the scene unfold as I'm silently cheering the dogs on to get away, while still knowing that it would probably be pretty dangerous for the humans in the neighborhood if they did get away.
